Annually Pursuant to N.J.A.C.6A:16-2.2(l) health screenings are done at Demarest Public Schools.  Screenings at DMS begin mid October to mid November.  

• Students in grades 5-8 are screened for height, weight and blood pressure
• Students in grades 6 and 8 are also have vision screenings
• Students in grade 7 also have a hearing screening
• Students in grade 5 and 7 have scoliosis screenings in the spring

Parents have the right to opt their children out of screenings.  If a parent does not want the school nurse to conduct  screenings, they must send in a hand written, signed letter stating specifically which screenings they do not want conducted.  In addition the parent must provide the screening information from the child's doctor.

Please note all students will be screened annually unless an opt out letter is received by October 15th every year as afore mentioned above.
