WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
Thank you for visiting the DMS website. I am so proud of our school community for its success over the past two years. We have hard-working, resilient students, parents who care deeply about our school community, and amazing teachers who are our true super heroes. We are a small but mighty school community that is focused on meeting the needs of our learners.
Our instructional staff is a group of outstanding educators dedicated to meeting the needs of all students. At DMS we believe that everyone learns every day. Our intent is for each student to meet his or her individual potential. As such, we endeavor to create a cutting edge curricular experience characterized by technology integration, a passion for literature, engagement in the arts, character development, and critical thinking. We believe in rigorous standards-driven instruction to allow all learners to reach their individual potential. Our first priority, however, is the ethic of care. We believe that every member of the school house should feel respected in their individuality and cared for as a human being.
Grade level curriculum guides found here. Beyond our truly outstanding core academic courses, we host a range of enrichment courses available to all students, including the arts, music, S.T.E.M., public speaking and debate, genius hour, problem solving and robotics. Over the past year, we implemented two new programs, "DMS News" and "Social & Emotional Learning." Last year we also had the amazing pleasure of bringing back many of our programs, including athletics, band, the school play and assemblies. Over the summer, we were able to install a new heating system and new flooring in our fifth grade wing. We upgraded the windows in our lobby and completely redesigned and renovated our eighth grade science lab.
This school year, we are excited about bringing the joy of learning to our eager students. In fifth grade this year, we will be hosting an executive functioning course as an AEP offering. We will also be hosting a course which began this last year entitled "Hands on Math." In sixth grade we will be hosting an additional Civics course that compliments our seventh grade offering. In seventh grade, we will be teaching mobile application design. Our goal at DMS is to build partnerships between students, teachers, parents, and the community at large. Within our school community, everyone contributes to success at Demarest Middle School.
